Voted “Most Beautiful Cycling Route in Europe” in 2018, the Kattegattleden is a dream for seasoned cyclists, mostly hugging the coastline and winding through open countryside, peaceful nature reserves, and lush, rolling farmlands. Your journey begins in Helsingborg, where you will begin your journey through six unforgettable stages along Sweden’s stunning west coast, where charming fishing villages, cozy harbors, and panoramic seaside views are just the beginning.
Each day starts with a hearty breakfast at your comfortable 4-star hotel. While you’re out spinning your wheels and soaking in the scenery, your luggage takes its own smooth journey to the next destination and it will be waiting for you when you arrive at your hotel. So relax, enjoy the ride, and savor everything that makes the Swedish west coast so spectacular.

As you near Göteborg, the landscape shifts beautifully: dramatic cliffs, forested trails, and serene bays add a little extra magic to your journey. And speaking of magic, this region is renowned for its world-class seafood. Trust us, the fresh catches here are worth the ride alone.

Stephanie will accompany your private small group throughout the journey, ensuring everything runs smoothly both on and off the bike. With her warm personality and expert guidance, you can focus entirely on enjoying the ride. Having led this tour before, Stephanie is quite familiar with the route—and she’s uncovered some delightful hidden gems along the way that she can’t wait to share with you.

DAY 1

Arrival in Helsingborg

Welcome to Sweden! Meet your Tour Director, Stephanie, in the charming seaside city of Helsingborg. Your hotel is right in the heart of the action—just steps from the medieval Kärnan watchtower and the beautiful St. Mary’s Church. In the afternoon, gather for a tour orientation and bike fitting to get ready for the road ahead.

DAY 2

Helsingborg → Ängelholm (60 km / 36 mi)

Start your ride along Helsingborg’s waterfront promenade, then cruise past the elegant Sofiero Palace and its award-winning gardens. Pedal through postcard-perfect fishing villages and boat marinas until you reach Höganäs—home to world-famous salt-glazed ceramics. Cross the scenic Kulla Peninsula, dotted with vineyards and farm shops, before rolling into the lively town of Ängelholm.

DAY 3

Ängelholm → Halmstad (75–95 km / 47–59 mi)

Today’s ride brings big coastal views and quiet rural charm. Stop at a hidden gem in Magnarps Port for fresh seafood and sea views, then cut inland to the stylish town of Båstad. From there, follow Sweden’s longest stretch of sandy beach past classic resorts and two peaceful nature reserves before arriving in Halmstad.

DAY 4

Halmstad → Falkenberg (60 km / 36 mi)

Kick things off with a visit to Sweden’s most iconic beach—Tylösand—then ride north along a scenic coastal route of open farmland, nature reserves, and dramatic sea views. Pass through Ugglarp, known for its bountiful gardens, before arriving in the historic town of Falkenberg, rich in medieval charm.

DAY 5

Falkenberg → Varberg (40 km / 24 mi)

A short but sweet day packed with seaside gems. Pedal past quaint fishing villages and local artisan studios. Perhaps a stop in Träslövsläge will provide a reward of just-cooked lobster, before continuing toward Varberg, where a stately seaside castle welcomes you at the finish line.

DAY 6

Varberg → Kungsbacka (60–70 km / 36–42 mi)

The coast transforms today—sandy beaches give way to rocky cliffs, and islands begin to dot the sea. Pass horse farms and rolling meadows en route to Kungsbacka, a charming town with cobbled streets and a well-preserved old center.

DAY 7

Kungsbacka → Göteborg (40–65 km / 24–36 mi)

Your final ride leads you back to the sea through Vallda and Särö, once a favorite escape for Swedish royalty. Pick up the old railway line—now a dreamy coastal bike path—lined with forests, cliffs, and peaceful marinas. Follow the harbor into vibrant Göteborg for a celebratory last night in the city.

DAY 8

Departure from Göteborg

Enjoy one last Swedish breakfast, then depart at your leisure—or stay a little longer to explore the city’s food scene and museums.

Arrival in Helsingborg: The closest airport to the tour start is Copenhagen (CPH) and from the finish is Göteborg (GOT). From Copenhagen you can board a train for the journey to Helsingor where a short ferry will take you to Helsingborg. It is a short walk to the hotel. Directions will be provided as departure date approaches.

Internet: There is free WIFI in the hotels.

Bicycles: Included in your tour price is a 24 Speed touring Bike, ideal for the terrain you will cycle on. E-bikes are available for a surcharge. Keep in mind that e-bikes are heavier than touring bikes and require good bike handling skills. We do not recommend them for novice cyclists. We encourage anyone interested in an e-bike to rent one at home to get accustomed to the bike, which is likely to be heavier than what you ride at home.

Bicycle Helmet: We require all guests to always wear a proper fitting helmet while riding on the tour. Helmets are included in the cost of the tour, but you are also welcome to bring your own.

Bicycle Locks: All bicycles are outfitted with locks. Please use them whenever you plan to leave your bicycle unattended for any length of time. You will be liable for damage or theft of the bicycle if it is stolen during an excursion because it was not locked properly. Bicycle insurance is available for a nominal fee.

Itinerary Program: The above itinerary is subject to change. Alterations are sometimes necessary due to circumstances beyond the operator’s control.

Physical Fitness and Bike Handling: To participate in and enjoy the biking part of the tour, it is important that you are in good physical condition and that you have the necessary bike handling skills. Group riding experience is encouraged but not a requirement. This tour is rated difficulty level 1-2 so novice cyclists may occasionally find it challenging. All guests are expected to keep pace with the group which travels at 10-12 mph. Guests who cannot maintain that pace will be asked to ride on their own, with maps and route sheets provided. Electric bikes are also an option (for a surcharge) but will need to be requested prior to the start of the tour. While most of the tour features routes on quiet country roads and dedicated bike paths, we will occasionally need to share the road with car traffic, and we will have to cross busy intersections. The weather is variable, it may not always be sunny, and the winds may not always be calm. Even under poor weather conditions, you should feel safe and able to cover the day’s distance on your bike. If for any reason, a guest cannot complete the day’s ride, the guest will need to travel to the hotel at their own expense.
