From the saddle of an electric bike or the comfort of a deck chair aboard a luxurious, eco-friendly river cruise ship, you’ll soak in ever-changing views—from the glittering Eiffel Tower to the windswept cliffs of Normandy.

This fully guided, van-supported tour offers a rich blend of culture, history, and nature. Begin your adventure in the magical city of Paris, where elegant boulevards, world-renowned monuments, and iconic bridges set the stage. From there, each day reveals a new chapter in France’s story—pedal through sleepy medieval villages, along riverbanks framed by wildflowers, and into lush Norman countryside where half-timbered farmhouses dot the landscape.

Highlights include visits to historic gems such as Monet’s gardens in Giverny, the ancient port town of Rouen, and the dramatic chalk cliffs of Étretat, which inspired generations of artists. Along the way, savor local cuisine, explore charming town squares, and unwind in the serene luxury of your river cruise ship, complete with a full-service spa, spacious staterooms, panoramic lounges, and exceptional onboard dining.

DAY 1

Embarkation in Paris

At 5 p.m., step aboard the A-Rosa Viva in Paris and be welcomed by your crew. Unpack, settle into your cabin, and enjoy a briefing on the journey ahead. Following dinner, the VIVA sets sail for Normandy—your adventure begins along the scenic Seine and its rich, historic landscapes.

DAY 2

The Capital of Normandy: Rouen (12mi/19km)

Sail overnight from Île-de-France and wake to the serene beauty of Normandy. Sail past villages, meadows, and forests on your way to Rouen. In the afternoon, bike to a panoramic viewpoint in town, then explore the old town’s cathedral, clock tower, and Jeanne d’Arc’s historic square. The ship stays here overnight so you may enjoy the cathedral’s evening light show.

DAY 3

Mighty Monasteries (28 mi/45km)

After breakfast, set off on your e-bike along the scenic Route of the Romanesque Monasteries. Ride past Normandy’s picturesque river loops to the stunning 11th-century ruins of Jumièges Abbey. Enjoy a picnic amid the historic setting before cycling along the bends of the charming landscape on the Seine. A short van transfer brings you back to the ship.

DAY 4

Picturesque Alabaster Coast (31mi/50km)

In the morning, travel to the breathtaking Côte d’Albâtre to explore Étretat’s dramatic chalk cliffs on a scenic hike. Inspired by Monet and other artists, the rock formations and views are unforgettable. Continue your day with a bike ride through picturesque Norman villages, past verdant pastures and small past châteaux to Tancarville, for your van transfer to the ship.

DAY 5

King Lionheart’s Castle & Monet’s Home & Garden (28mi/45km)

This morning, arrive in Les Andelys, where the Seine winds past limestone cliffs and the dramatic ruins of Richard the Lionheart’s castle. Cycle scenic riverside and hillside paths to the fortress for a guided tour and sweeping views. Continue to Giverny to explore Monet’s house and gardens, a living canvas of his inspiration. Ride onward to La Roche Guyon and its cliff-carved château, before a short van transfer returns you and your bike to the A-Rosa Viva in Vernon.

DAY 6

Savoir-Vivre on the Seine – cruising day

Enjoy a relaxing day cruising the Seine through the scenic Île-de-France. As you sail toward Paris, your guide offers an engaging talk on French culture, history, and life. Unwind on deck with a drink or visit the ship’s spa for a pampering treatment. Dinner is served on board, and by evening, you’ll arrive in Paris, where the city’s glittering lights provide a magical setting to reflect on your journey.

DAY 7

Paris Urban Quarters & Museum Orangerie (17mi/27km)

Begin your day with an bike ride from the ship through quiet Parisian streets and green spaces. Cycle along the scenic Canal St. Martin to the Seine for a stunning view of Notre-Dame, then explore the Tuileries Gardens and visit the Orangerie to admire Monet’s Water Lilies and other Impressionist masterpieces. Enjoy lunch aboard with views of Place de la Concorde and the Champs-Élysées as you cruise past Pont Alexandre III and Les Invalides. In the afternoon, visit the Musée Rodin to see iconic works like The Thinker and The Kiss, nestled in a peaceful sculpture garden.

DAY 8

E-BIKE TRIP – ROUTE ASSESSMENT: The total distance by e-bike and on foot is 125 miles. The bike routes mostly run on cycle paths with little traffic or on quiet side streets. For the hike on the coastal path, we recommend comfortable running shoes with a good grip.

Arrival in Paris: The closest airport to the start of the tour is Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG). From there you can board an RER train for the journey to the city center of Paris. Taxis are also available and the taxi fare is roughly €60 depending on the location of your hotel. The ship will be moored in St. Denis. Directions to the ship will be provided as the departure date approaches.

Internet: There is free wi-fi on the ship though it may not be as fast as what you are accustomed to at home. It will be adequate to check e-mails and surf the web. It may be limited or unavailable during sailing.

Bicycles: Electric bikes are equipped with Bosch electric bike motors and puncture proof tires. There are several levels of assistance to keep you pedaling with ease. If you’re new to e-bikes, we suggest renting one locally at home before the tour to gain familiarity and practice riding it safely.

Bicycle Helmet: We require all guests to always wear a properly fitting helmet while riding on the tour.

Bicycle Locks: All bicycles are fitted with locks. Please use them whenever you plan to leave your bicycle unattended for any length of time. You will be liable for damage or theft of the bicycle if it is stolen during an excursion because it was not locked properly.

Itinerary Program: The above itinerary is subject to change. Alterations are sometimes necessary due to nautical or technical conditions. This tour will cover daily bike rides of 17-31 miles. It is often possible to do only part of the day’s tour. And, of course, you can always opt out of riding and stay on board for the day. The guides will join you for the daily rides and point out interesting sights along the route. Guides can make repairs to your bike, as necessary. You do not have to bike with the group. You will receive detailed instructions enabling you to ride at whatever pace you choose. While you are biking, the barge will cruise to the town where we will spend the night.

Physical Fitness & Bike Handling
To participate in the biking part of the tour, it is important to arrive in good physical condition with proper bike handling skills. Group riding experience is encouraged but not a requirement. This tour is rated at difficulty level 1, so novice cyclists in good condition should find the daily distances and terrain manageable. All guests are expected to keep pace with the group at 12-15 mph. Guests who cannot maintain that pace have the option to board the support van to complete the day’s journey. While cycling, we will occasionally need to share the road with car traffic, and cross busy intersections. The weather is variable, it may not always be sunny, and the wind may not always be calm. Even under poor weather conditions, you should feel safe and able to cover the day’s distance on your bike. There is always the option to remain on the ship and enjoy a nice cruise.

To prepare for this tour, you should ride your bike at home several days per week, 20-25 miles at a time. If that is not possible, we recommend that you ride a stationary bike indoors to condition your leg muscles. Do what you can to include cardio workouts in your weekly fitness routine. All this will ensure that you thoroughly enjoy your tour.
