Map of Lake Constance Bike Tour Route

Nestled along the Rhine River at the foot of the Alps, Lake Constance (Bodensee) is one of Europe’s most stunning cycling destinations. As Germany’s largest lake, it forms a natural border with Austria and Switzerland, creating a region rich in culture, history, and breathtaking scenery.

Led by Stephanie, an experienced tour director with a deep connection to this area, this small-group adventure will take you on an unforgettable journey through one of her favorite and most familiar regions of Europe. With a carefully selected three- or four-star hotel as our comfortable “hub” (base), we’ll explore the beauty of Lake Constance on a series of daily rides, each taking us along a new “spoke” (path) to discover the hidden gems and renowned landmarks of this spectacular region.

Along the way, you’ll cycle through charming medieval villages, past vineyards and orchards, and along scenic lakeside paths. Discover the historic village of Stein am Rhein, with its beautifully preserved medieval center. Explore the UNESCO-listed Reichenau Island, known for its ancient monasteries and lush gardens. Visit Meersburg to admire its architecture and gaze at its castle, one of Germany’s oldest inhabited fortresses. Stroll through the exquisite Mainau Island, famous for its vibrant botanical gardens. As we pedal through the region, we’ll enjoy stops at traditional cafés, lakeside beer gardens, and picturesque vineyards, soaking in the rich culture and flavors of the Bodensee.

With its diverse landscapes, fascinating history, and idyllic cycling routes, Lake Constance is the perfect destination for an immersive cycling experience. Join Stephanie for this unforgettable ride through three countries, where every turn of the pedal unveils a new adventure.

Internet: There is free WIFI in the hotels.

Bicycles: You’ll have the option to ride either a touring bike (21- or 24-speed) or an electric bike—both well-suited for the terrain on this tour. If you’re considering an e-bike, please keep in mind that they are significantly heavier than standard touring bikes and require confident bike-handling skills. For this reason, we do not recommend e-bikes for novice cyclists. If you’re new to e-bikes, we suggest renting one locally at home before the tour to gain familiarity and practice riding it safely.

Bicycle Helmet: We require all guests to always wear a properly fitting helmet while riding on the tour.

Bicycle Locks: All bicycles are outfitted with locks. Please use them whenever you plan to leave your bicycle unattended for any length of time. You will be liable for damage or theft of the bicycle if it is stolen during an excursion because it was not locked properly. Bicycle insurance is available at check-in for a nominal fee.

Physical Fitness and Bike Handling: To participate in the biking part of the tour, it is important that you are in good physical condition and have the necessary bike handling skills. Group riding experience is encouraged but not a requirement. This tour is rated difficulty level 1-2 so novice cyclists may occasionally find it challenging. All guests are expected to keep pace with the group which travels at 10-12 mph. Guests who cannot maintain that pace will be asked to ride on their own, with maps/route sheets provided. On this tour, we will occasionally need to share the road with car traffic, and we will have to cross busy intersections. The weather is variable, it may not always be sunny, and the wind may not always be calm. Even under poor weather conditions, you should feel safe and able to cover the day’s distance on your bike. If for any reason, a guest cannot complete the day’s ride, the guest can return with their bike to the hotel, at their own expense.
