This tour is designed for experienced cyclists with a good level of fitness. It includes longer daily rides of 20-40 miles and more challenging terrain (occasionally forest tracks and gravel paths). While our support van will accompany the group, novice cyclists may still find this tour challenging.

Discover the magic and mystique of the Scottish Highlands on an unforgettable cycling adventure—from the serene shores of Loch Lomond to the legendary waters of Loch Ness. This fully supported tour takes you through ancient glens, forested trails, and charming villages steeped in folklore and natural beauty.

With expert local guides, van support, and flexible ride options, you’ll explore Scotland’s most iconic landscapes in comfort and style. Along the way, hear tales of clans, castles, and mythical creatures that bring the Highlands to life.

Stephanie, who always accompanies her tours, will be joining this journey as well—but this one is especially meaningful. Her father was born in Glasgow and raised in Edinburgh, but her ancestral roots run even deeper into the Highlands, where clans Scott and Lindsay once roamed. This tour is a homecoming of the heart, and she’s excited to share it with you.

Choose between a 21/24-speed hybrid or electric bike and enjoy quiet country lanes, scenic paths, and traffic-free cycleways. Whether you’re climbing through the wild Trossachs or coasting along the Caledonian Canal, this tour blends adventure with authentic Scottish charm.

This is more than a vacation—it’s a journey into the soul of Scotland.

DAY 1

Day 1: Arrive in Balloch – Gateway to Loch Lomond

Arrive in Balloch, nestled on the shimmering shores of Loch Lomond. A short walk from the train station brings you to your welcoming accommodation. In the evening, meet your guides, tour director Stephanie, and fellow travelers for a warm welcome and a wee dram, as anticipation builds for your cycling adventure through the legendary landscape of the Scottish Highlands

DAY 2

Balloch to Callander: 35 miles / 56 km | Ascent: 820 m | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

After a hearty Scottish breakfast and a bike fitting session, pedal past Balloch Castle and into quiet countryside, where ancient oaks line the quiet roads to Drymen, home to Scotland’s oldest pub. Climb through pine-scented trails in Achray Forest, where you will be rewarded with sweeping views over the Trossachs. Descend beside emerald Loch Venachar and arrive in charming Callander, surrounded by rolling hills and Highland air.

DAY 3

Callander to Killin: 25 miles / 41 km | Ascent: 510 m | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Glide along a former railway line through forested glens and beneath stone viaducts. Pass waterfalls tumbling beside Loch Lubnaig and climb gently into Glen Ogle, where views stretch for miles. Ride past Balquhidder, resting place of folk hero Rob Roy, before rolling into Killin, where the white-capped Falls of Dochart rush beneath ancient stone bridges.

DAY 4

Oban Loop Ride (via Transfer) 16–34 miles / 26–55 km | Ascent: up to 490 m | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

After a scenic transfer from Connel to Killin on the west coast, you cycle along the coast to  Oban, a bustling harbour town framed by islands and the sea. After you explore Oban, it’s back on the bikes along Loch Etive, where mountains rise steeply above still waters. With scenery in every direction, today’s ride delivers postcard-worthy Highland views.

DAY 5

Connel to Fort William: 43 miles / 69 km | Ascent: 605 m | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Cross Connel Bridge and join a peaceful traffic-free cycle path winding between Loch Creran and Loch Leven, tracing an old railway through woodlands and coastal flats. Ferry across Loch Linnhe to Ardgour, then follow the loch’s glassy shoreline to a second ferry to Fort William. Nestled beneath majestic Ben Nevis, this Highland hub invites you to relax and refuel.

DAY 6

Rest Day in Fort William

Take a day off the bike to explore Fort William at your own pace. Situated beneath Scotland’s highest peak, Ben Nevis, Fort William is a bustling town with no shortage of charming shops to browse or establishments to enjoy a wee dram or Highland fare.  Whether sightseeing or simply unwinding, today offers the perfect pause amid your journey.

DAY 7

Fort William to Fort Augustus: 33 miles / 54 km | Ascent: 460 m | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Follow the Caledonian Canal, Scotland’s longest waterway, into the majestic Great Glen, where mountains guard the still waters of Loch Lochy and Loch Oich. Ride undulating forest trails of Clunes Woods, beneath whispering pines, then emerge at Aberchalder and glide along the towpath to Fort Augustus. Set on Loch Ness’s southern shore, this tranquil hamlet offers Highland charm and legend in equal measure.

DAY 8

Fort Augustus to Inverness: 34 miles / 55 km | Ascent: 680 m | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Begin with a challenging but beautiful climb through the remote slopes of Glen Doe (or hop in the van for a lift to the summit) where you’ll enjoy a sweeping descent with Highland views on all sides. Visit the dramatic Falls of Foyers on the way to the murky shores of Loch Ness. Finish your epic journey in Inverness, the Highland capital and perfect place to celebrate.

DAY 9

Departure from Inverness or Extend your Stay in Scotland!

After breakfast, you have several options. We will provide a transfer back to Balloch. However, if you wish to explore more of the Highlands on your own, rail and air links make onward travel easy. You may want to extend your stay in Inverness and fly onward from there. You could hop on a train to magical Edinburgh, where ancient castles, a lively culture, and more stunning views await!

Directions to the tour hotel will be provided as the departure date approaches. The closest airport to the tour finish is Inverness.

Bicycles: You’ll have the option to ride either a hybrid touring bike or an electric bike—both well-suited for the terrain on this tour. The hybrid bikes are generally Giant Roam (male frame), or Liv Rove (female frame) with a wide gear range suitable for the route and terrain, semi-slick tires, disc brakes.

If you’re considering an e-bike, please keep in mind that they are significantly heavier than standard touring bikes and require confident bike-handling skills. For this reason, we do not recommend e-bikes for novice cyclists. If you’re new to e-bikes, we suggest renting one locally at home before the tour to gain familiarity and practice riding it safely.

Bikes are also equipped with a rear rack and pannier bags, one bottle cage.

If you wish to bring your own pedals or saddle, you are welcome to do so. Please let us know when you register.

Bicycle Helmet: We require all guests to wear a properly fitting helmet at all times while riding on the tour.

Bicycle Locks: All bicycles are outfitted with locks. Please use them whenever you plan to leave your bicycle unattended for any length of time. You will be liable for damage or theft of the bicycle if it is stolen during an excursion because it was not locked properly. Bicycle insurance is available for a nominal fee.

Itinerary Program: The above itinerary is subject to change. Alterations are sometimes necessary due to circumstances beyond the operator’s control

Physical Fitness and Bike Handling: To participate in the biking part of the tour, it is important that you are in good physical condition and have the necessary bike handling skills. Group riding experience is encouraged but not a requirement. This tour is rated difficulty level 3-4, due to the hilly terrain and occasional off-road forest and gravel paths. Novice cyclists may find it quite challenging. All guests are expected to keep pace with the group, which travels at 12-15 mph. Guests who cannot maintain that pace may be asked to board the support van. On this tour, we will occasionally need to share the road with car traffic, and we will have to cross busy intersections. The weather is variable; it may not always be sunny, and the wind may not always be calm. Even under poor weather conditions, you should feel safe and able to cover the day’s distance on your bike. If for any reason, a guest cannot complete the day’s ride, the guest can finish the day’s journey by support van.
